Matthieu graduated in chemistry at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen, Germany in 2018. He prepared his bachelor thesis in the group of Professor Dr. Sven Schneider about examination of transient Nickel nitrene complexes with PNP pincer ligands. In 2018, he then started his master in chemistry at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen. During his master studies he spent 6 month at the University of Padova as an ERASMUS student.

He joined the group in January 2021, first for his Master thesis, then decided to continue on with a PhD working on electrocatalytic CO2 reduction with immobilized coordination complexes at carbon based electrodes.
