Haroon Rashid

Post Doctoral researcher

Born in Kashmir, India, Haroon Rashid began his academic journey at the University of Delhi, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. He went on to complete a Master's in Organic Chemistry at Jamia Millia Islamia, working in the lab of Prof. Nasimul Hoda on the synthesis of antineurodegenerative agents for Alzheimer’s disease.

Driven by a passion for research, he moved to France in 2020 to pursue a research-oriented Master 2 at the University of Paris-Saclay. He conducted his Master thesis at École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay under the supervision of Dr. Isabelle Leray and Dr. Vitor Brasiliense, on the synthesis and surface grafting of metal porphyrins on inert substrates. Haroon earned his Ph.D. from  CEA Saclay, under the supervision of Dr. Winfried Leibl. His doctoral work centered on viologen-based porphyrin catalysts and covalent organic frameworks for the activation and reduction of carbon dioxide in the presence of dioxygen.

In May 2025, he joined the SolHyCat team to work on the photo(electro)catalytic production of hydrogen and reduction of CO2 based on molecular cobalt catalysts and photoactive polymers.

Beyond the lab, Haroon enjoys hiking and playing cricket.
